  1. Update instructions: RealPC™ 1.0.4

  3. This file describes how to update RealPC™ 1.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2 or 1.0.3 for Power Macintosh to version 1.0.4.

  5. Version 1.0.4 provides support for installing and using Windows 98.
  6.  
  7. Other new features include:
  8. * Balloon help in the PC Setup dialog.
  9. * Support for 3Dfx Voodoo2™ Graphics cards
  10. * Support for Appearance Manager and Mac OS 8.5 Themes.
  11. * A new version of the Hard Disk Expander.
  12. * A new Hard Disk Mounter utility, allowing you to access the contents of hard disk files from your Macintosh.
  13. * A number of bug fixes and minor improvements.

  15. You will need to install the latest version of Appearance Manager if you are running Mac OS System 7.x, and possibly for System 8.0 or 8.1.

  17. See below for details of using the Hard Disk Mounter and Hard Disk Expander.

  19. Update instructions:
  20. 1. Download the files RealPC™ Update and RealPC
  21. Upgrade Disk and copy them to the RealPC folder on your Macintosh.
  22. 2. Select OK when prompted to overwrite the existing RealPC Upgrade Disk or the RealPC™ Update file.
  23. 3. Double-click RealPC™ Update.
  24. 4. In the dialog box, select the RealPC™ file, and then click Update. Your original RealPC™ file is then renamed Old RealPC™, and a new file named RealPC™ will be created.
  25. 5. RealPC™ has now been updated and is ready to use.

  27. Running the Hard Disk Expander and Hard Disk Mounter
  28. Copy these files to the RealPC folder on your Macintosh. These files can be run as stand-alone utilities, by double-clicking them.

  30. Using the Hard Disk Mounter
  31. You can list and access individual files within a SoftWindows or RealPC hard disk file from the Macintosh using the Hard Disk Mounter utility. This avoids the need to start up SoftWindows or RealPC to find or use a particular file.

  33. To show these files, drag the hard disk onto your HD Mounter icon (in your RealPC folder). The hard disk is then mounted on your desktop, and you can see the contents of that hard disk. You can then access each file on that hard disk from your Macintosh.

  35. We recommend that you exercise caution if you replace, remove or modify any files, especially files in the Windows directory, as you may adversely affect RealPC operations.

  37. Troubleshooting
  38. If you see the message "The application "RealPC™" could not be opened because "AppearanceLib" could not be found" when launching RealPC, please ensure that the Macintosh Appearance control panel and extension are installed in your System folder, and restart your Macintosh.

  40. Version and license information
  41. This version will run identically to your old version, but with the added features described above. The new version number is RealPC™ 1.0.4. The serial number for RealPC™ 1.0.4 is the same as for your old copy.
